About Us

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is an inter-governmental organisation committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits both migrants and society. As the leading global organisation for migration, IOM works with migrants, governments and its partners in the international community to provide humane responses to the growing migration challenges of today.

By promoting international cooperation and dialogue on migration issues, IOM assists in the search for practical solutions to key issues facing migrants and societies alike. The IOM Constitution recognises the link between migration and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the right of freedom of movement.

The IOM Office in the United Kingdom (IOM UK) is one of over 150 country offices. IOM’s presence in the UK began in 1992 as a liaison office which became operational in 1999 with the launch of the country’s first assisted voluntary return programme. Today, IOM UK focuses its activities in five broad programme areas. These are:


About the IOM UK Chief of Mission         
                                                                                                                                                                         

Dipti Pardeshi joined IOM UK as Chief of Mission in June 2015. She has been focusing on enhancing partnerships with government, civil society organisations, academics, think tanks and private sector on the key areas of IOM UK’s work, which are: Resettlement, Integration and Community Cohesion, Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery, Diaspora and Development, Migrant Assistance and Migration Policy and Research.

Previously, she served as Chief Information Officer and Director of the Information Technology and Communications Division in the IOM’s Headquarters in Geneva. As Director, she was a champion of important changes in IOM’s information management systems contributing towards the Organizations’ effectiveness. She joined IOM in 2002 as Project Coordinator. She is an Engineering graduate in Information Management and Technology and is originally from Mumbai, India.
